After several years living in France and converting two large barns into functioning gites, my newly found bachelorhood necessitated a consuming challenge.

I have become the new owner of a very old and fascinating property nestling in the shadows of a wonderful old Chateau in the Touraine region of central France.

The property was dearly loved by the previous owner, who used it as a holiday home for more than thirty years. Her name is Harriet, and it will always be “Harriet’s” house for me, but as a permanent residence it now deserves a huge amount of love, work and alteration.

This blog is a record of progress and reflections on life in a small vibrant French village.
